The Dean’s Speaker Series, hosted by the School of Business & Public Administration’s Bank of Hawaii Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation at the University of Guam, will feature a lineup of entrepreneurs and innovators this semester, each sharing their stories through the lens of indigenous languages, world languages, and the emerging online virtual languages. The series’ focus is in solidarity with the United Nations General Assembly proclaiming 2019 as the International Year of Indigenous Languages.

“Communication is the cornerstone of business and provides a platform for effective commerce, sustainable development, and cultural competence, so we are excited to highlight language as the common thread of our speakers this semester,” said Holly Rustick, program manager for the center.

The Dean’s Speaker Series this semester will begin with the following:

  • 2 p.m."3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 6
    Talaya, a Guam nonprofit organization
The founders of Talaya will be discussing indigenous language and Adult Sign Language movement efforts in education.
  • 2 p.m."3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 13
Author and entrepreneur Larry C. Farrell
Farrell founded The Farrell Co., a global firm that has trained more than six million people in entrepreneurship at universities, companies, and in government projects.

The SBPA Bank of Hawaii Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation will host subsequent Dean’s Speaker Series throughout the fañomnåkan semester. All events will be held in the SBPA Bank of Hawaii Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation, located on the second floor of the SBPA building at the University of Guam.
