Coconut Kefir Workshop for Your Good Health

1/12/2018

If you want to make your belly blissful and feel great, then learning how to make coconut kefir may be your ticket to good gut health! Research has shown that kefir is very high in probiotics, the beneficial bacteria in our belly that we need for optimal gut health.

The University of Guam College of Natural & Applied Sciences Extension & Outreach personnel will be presenting a workshop on how to make coconut kefir at home. Kefir is traditionally made by fermenting cow or goat milk, but since Guam is blessed with an abundance of coconuts, the workshop will be using local coconut milk instead of dairy milk.

In addition to learning how to make kefir, participants will learn about the nutritional benefits of coconut and coconut products, production and health benefits of coconut kefir, and the potential marketing opportunity of kefir products in the community. All participants will receive a package of kefir culture and a fermentation jar to make coconut kefir at home.

The workshop will be held from 8:45 a.m. to 12:10 p.m. on January 13, 2018 at the Agriculture and Life Sciences Building, Room 125 on the University of Guam campus. The registration fee is $25 per person, which includes refreshments, workshop materials, one packet of kefir culture, one fermentation jar, and a certificate of participation. Registration is first-come, first-served with a 20-person maximum. The deadline for registration is Thursday, January 11 at 5:00 p.m.
