Higa and Shigetomi are two of the first international exchange students to come to UOG since the start of the pandemic.

 

The University of Guam welcomed its first international students this semester since the start of the pandemic as well as engaged others virtually through three programs under the Global Learning & Engagement office.

International Student Exchange

Three international students from Japan and South Korea will be attending UOG this semester as part of the International Student Exchange program. UOG has international student exchange agreements with approximately 80 institutions in South Korea and Japan. The program aims to provide students with academic, language, and cultural enrichment through study abroad experiences.

English Language Institute Program

The UOG English Language Institute welcomed seven international students from off-island this academic year, its first off-island students since the start of the pandemic, in addition to students who are residents of Guam. The institute assists non-English speaking individuals to learn English in a classroom setting. Through the 13-week program, the students attend classes to improve their writing skills, conversation skills, and reading comprehension.

Virtual English Adventure Program

Thirty students from Sahmyook University in South Korea completed a four-week virtual English Adventure Program offered through UOG GLE. The program, sponsored by the Blue Ladder Program, was held from Dec. 27 to Jan. 21. The students received three hours of English instruction per day and had the opportunity to attend one-hour presentations from various companies and government of Guam agencies as part of the Blue Ladder curriculum.
