In memoriam: Larry Gamboa

The University of Guam mourns the loss of Mr. Larry G. Gamboa, Acting Director, EEO / ADA / Title IX Office, on Nov. 6, 2021, at the age of 55. He is the husband of Valerie S. Gamboa, Administrative Assistant at Student Health Services. We are saddened to have lost one of our own so unexpectedly.

Mr. Gamboa graduated from UOG in 1990 with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance and Economics/ Management. He earned a Master of Arts in Human Resources Management from Hawaii Pacific University in 1994, and in 2000, he earned a Master of Business Administration from UOG. He was working to complete a Ph.D. in interdisciplinary studies from the University of Alaska Fairbanks in partnership with UOG. As a professional, he was constantly expanding and improving upon his knowledge and skills, earning designations as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP), Certified Program Planner (CPP), and Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF).

Mr. Gamboa spent much of his career in higher education serving in various roles including Manager of Continuing Education and Distance Leaming at Spokane Community College from 2002 to 2005 and Project Director of the Pacific Postsecondary Education Council from 2005 to 2012. He began his career at UOG in 1991 as an Administrative Officer. In his more than 20 years at the University, he has served as a Program Coordinator, Adjunct Instructor, Director of Professional and International Programs, Chief Human Resources Officer, and as the Acting Director of EEO/ ADA/Title IX. He was a valued member of
the University's administrative team, serving on the President's Council, Administrative Council, and many other committees.

The Gamboa family will be holding private rosaries. Viewing will be held from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 29, at the Guam Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Leyang, Barrigada. Mass for Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 30, at the Santa Teresita Catholic Church in Mangilao, followed by interment at the Guam Memorial Park.

The University will be holding a memorial service in honor of Mr. Gamboa. More information will be provided soon.
