UOG Farmer Focus to offer free health seminars
The University of Guam Farmer Focus Project and the UOG Asia Pacific Studies Center will be facilitating free health seminars in three villages this month targeting the agricultural community but open to all residents.
The seminars will be held on the following dates and at the following locations:
Attendees will hear presentations on obesity and the benefits of healthy eating and exercise from undergraduate nursing and psychology students from the National Taipei University of Nursing & Health Sciences in Taiwan — a school that has partnered with UOG since 2023 to facilitate cross-cultural student and faculty exchange.
Health and nutrition educators from the UOG Land Grant Extension Service will highlight programs that residents can get involved in related to diabetes self-care and adopting healthy, active lifestyles. Faculty from the UOG Margaret Perez Hattori-Uchima School of Health will also share some information on the Guam National Health Interview Survey, which is currently gathering health data from Guam households that can then inform needed health programs, policies, and services. The Aug. 29 session in Inalåhan will additionally have a presentation by the Guam Behavioral Health & Wellness Center on ways to cope with stress.
This marks the second health seminar series held by the UOG Farmer Focus Program,
following the first event in August last year. The seminars are open to all residents.

The Farmer Focus Project is an initiative under the University of Guam Land Grant Extension Service. Farmer Focus is an extension of the Western Region Agricultural Stress Assistance Program, which is dedicated to improving the health and quality of life of farmers and agriculture workers across the nation. The program is working to destigmatize mental health discussions within the agriculture sector and to help the agriculture community improve their physical, social, and emotional health.
