About the Division
The University of Guam Division of Mathematics & Computer Science is a dynamic and interdisciplinary division of the College of Natural & Applied Sciences dedicated to exploring mathematics and computer science through instruction, research, and more.
The mission of the division is to provide rigorous education in mathematics and computer science that prepares students to become dedicated professionals, teachers, and leaders. Whether studying mathematics or computer science, students learn to appreciate, understand, and engage in mathematical knowledge in order to be knowledgeable and successful in a variety of careers — from academia to industry to entrepreneurship.

Degree Programs
With a focus on both theoretical and practical applications, the division offers two full-time undergraduate programs leading to a Bachelor of Science in mathematics or computer science and offers a wide range of courses that provide students with a strong foundation in these fields. Students may choose from concentrations in pure mathematics, secondary teacher preparation, statistical sciences, and computer science.
Through a combination of classroom instruction, immersive research opportunities, and collaboration with faculty and peer mentors, students are encouraged to think creatively and critically and to develop the skills necessary to solve complex problems.

Committed Faculty
Our division members are committed as teachers as well as active and productive mathematical researchers, publishing in peer-reviewed journals, speaking at conferences and seminars regionally and nationally, organizing research programs and internships to enrich the student experience, and collaborating broadly within the mathematical and scientific communities. The tenured/tenure-eligible faculty’s commitment to further expand mathematic research through mathematics and programming is shown in their current research projects, including game theory, coding theory, graph theory, and statistical analysis.
Student Experience
The division promotes regular interaction between professors and students and encourages
student involvement in a variety of extracurricular learning opportunities, including
immersive research experiences, international conferences, and student club involvement.
The Engineering, Mathematics, and Computer Science Club (EMC²) creates a network of people who share a passion for STEM. Club members engage with the surrounding community, taking on a mentorship role to younger students in nearby public schools and organizing activities that enable local students to visit our division and explore the various math-related prospects available at UOG.
The pathway allows associate degree holders from GCC to continue toward a bachelor's at UOG.
The event provided 12 UOG students a chance to present their math research and to see UOG alumni.
Their research demonstrates the growing data science capacity at UOG through its new M.S. Data Science program.
A semester-long project allowed UOG students to work directly with a client to design needed software.
UOG Math Day hosted 70 middle and high school students for a day of fun and friendly competition.
