Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering
Dr. Ernesto J. Guades joined the School of Engineering as an assistant professor of civil engineering in 2021. He came to UOG from the Technical University of Denmark, where he was a postdoctoral researcher in structural engineering under the Marie S. Curie-H.C. Orsted COFUND Fellowship.
He had also previously been an assistant professor of civil engineering at Northwest Samar State University (Philippines) from Fall 1998 to November 2018 and a teaching/research assistant at the University of Southern Queensland (Australia) from January 2011 to December 2012. He is a member of nine major scientific organizations.
Guades is passionate and committed to fostering knowledge in the field of structural engineering by promoting respect, integrity, and excellence in teaching and research that will eventually impact and empower present and future generations for community service.
Guades’ publications include 13 journal research papers and 16 conference presentations, which can be viewed here. He has completed 13 funded research projects worth a total of $1 million.

Dr. Shahram Khosrowpanah (Dr. K) was appointed as the interim dean of the new School of Engineering after having served as the director of UOG's Water & Environmental Research Institute for three terms. Khosrowpanah is a professional civil engineer and professor of water resources engineering with more than 32 years of experience in research, teaching, and engineering practices in the area of water resources in Guam and the other islands of the Western Pacific.

Patil received his PhD in Civil Engineering with specialization in Geotechnical Engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2014. He earned his Master of Science in Geotechnical Engineering from San Diego State University, California in 2008, and Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Pune University in India. He has Professional Civil Engineer (PE-Civil) license from the State of Texas, USA. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
Patil has been involved in writing proposals and working on funded research projects for various funding agencies such as: National Science Foundation, Texas Department of Transportation, and US Department of Transportation. His research interests include laboratory soil testing and field instrumentation, static and dynamic characterization of saturated and unsaturated geo-materials, modeling of hydro-thermo-mechanical behavior of geo-materials, land-slides and slope stability analysis.
