ABOUT
Dr. Sarah Lemer joined the UOG Marine Laboratory in 2016 as a senior research faculty of genomics working for the EPSCoR project. In March 2020, she became an assistant professor of invertebrate genomics and teaches the Marine Invertebrate Biology graduate course. She and her students focus their research on coral’s genetic responses to heat stress.
She conducted two post-doctorates: one in French Polynesia at the French National Center for Scientific Research and the French Institute for the Sea, the second at Harvard University, Museum of Comparative Zoology - Department of Organismic and Evolutionary Biology.
RESEARCH INTERESTS
- Evolutionary biology
- Genomics of marine invertebrates
- Adaptation and population connectivity of coral-reef associated species in the context of fragmented, disturbed, and changing environments
- Using genetic tools to estimate population and individual responses to natural or manmade disturbances, such as increased sea temperatures, habitat destruction, or aquaculture
