Representatives of the University of Guam’s Cooperative Extension & Outreach briefed the governor on April 15 regarding the ongoing Census of Agriculture being conducted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture with assistance from the University and the Guam Department of Agriculture. The census began this spring and is taking place across the nation.

The Census of Agriculture provides the most widely used statistics in the agriculture industry. Typically conducted every five years, it was last collected in Guam more than 10 years ago due to budget constraints. It is the leading source of statistics about Guam’s agricultural production and the only source of comprehensive, comparable data at the island level.

A local representative will be visiting each farm to collect these vital data. The University will be providing technical assistance.

USDA will release census results in the summer of 2020.
