Exhibit to feature Vietnam veteran, author and artist
An upcoming exhibit at the Isla Center for the Arts at the University of Guam will feature Keith Gum, a former Guam resident who turned his experiences as a medic alongside U.S. Marines into the book 3rd Platoon: A Corpsman’s Story of the Vietnam War.
The exhibit will feature original block prints of the illustrations in the book published in 2020.
Created by Gum, the illustrations are hand-pulled linocut prints on artist-made paper. The colorful and dynamic images convey his experiences.
The exhibit will open Thursday, Nov. 10, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Gum will sign copies of his book and discuss his art at the opening reception.
The exhibit will continue from Monday through Friday 10 a.m.– 5 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. between Nov. 10 and Nov. 25, 2022.
Admission is free.
Keith Gum served with 3rd Platoon, Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 26th Marine Regiment as a corpsman on an outpost overlooking Khe Sanh during the siege in 1968. He holds a bachelor’s in Asian Studies from Sophia University, Tokyo, and a Master of Art from the University of Guam.
