WPTRC | Triton Farm
A community-supported research and demonstration farm
Located on the Yigo experiment station, the UOG Triton Farm is a 4.5-acre integrated demonstration farm used for research, instruction, and outreach. The farm provides guidance and hands-on learning for residents to operate organic, sustainable, profitable small-agriculture enterprises and contribute to the food security of the island. In its effort to maximize food production in small areas, the farm includes 15 economic crops, including taro, banana, calamansi, hot pepper, and breadfruit. The farm also utilizes agroforestry, or planting trees and plants together, to promote soil health, prevent erosion, and increase biodiversity.
Misson
The Triton Farm contributes to the University of Guam’s land-grant mission of ina (to enlighten), deskubre (to discover), and setbe (to serve) by providing research, instruction, and research opportunities in sustainable agriculture practices to faculty, students, farmers, and other community members in Micronesia. The Triton Farm promotes agricultural production, sustainable environmental management, food security, economic development, and enhanced quality of life incorporating Micronesian and global agricultural wisdom as well as culturally appropriate techniques while embracing inclusiveness, fairness, and collaboration.
Goals
Triton Farm is an integrated demonstration farm and welcomes visitors and tour groups of any size. Tours generally take an hour and can include a hands-on component upon request.
