Para Hulo' | UOG Strategic Plan 2019-2024
Welcome to the Para Hulo' Strategic Plan website! The University developed the strategic plan from February to August 2019 to guide our decisions and pursuits throughout the next five years and beyond.
The University’s Latin motto is “Excelsior,” or “Ever Upward.” Over the last few years, UOG has been working to become a great university, and it is primed to continue moving in that ever-upward trajectory. To represent this, we have titled our strategic plan "Para Hulo' "— which is the CHamoru translation for "Ever Upward."
This website provides information about the strategic planning process, each of the strategic initiatives and corresponding goals and objectives, and major updates in each initiative.
I have also prepared a whitepaper that presents a recent history of the University and how Para Hulo' prepares our insititution for the future. You can download and read the publication here.
I want to thank the Para Hulo' Strategic Planning Committee and all of our faculty, staff, administrators, and students for their collaboration and dedication to this institution throughout the planning process.
We are excited for the continued great work of our University and accomplishing our goals in this strategic plan.
Si Yu'os ma'åse', and Biba UOG!
Thomas W. Krise, Ph.D.
In a time when sustainability has become a global focus, our University, by nature, has the most sustainable product of all: people with the knowledge and drive to make a difference. Our students use what they learn here for life, and providing that education will always be our top priority as a University.
But in the Para Hulo’ Strategic Plan, we recognize that our purpose isn’t solely education for our students; it is delivering relevant value to the community through leveraged partnerships and extension work and educating the world through our research.
Para Hulo’ seeks a broader impact for our University by prioritizing all three of these avenues of our academic enterprise: research centered on island wisdom, meaningful partnerships, and student success. It also recognizes that none of these can be possible without a plan for financing, effective operations and customer service, and modernized infrastructure.
These initiatives launch an exciting new phase for the University of Guam, and we are proud to work alongside each of you as we move ever upward to transform lives and advance communities through our Para Hulo’ initiatives.
