6. Building and Sustaining our Infrastructure

Modern and well-maintained facilities, equipment, and technology are crucial components of a competitive and globally relevant education.

 

In conjunction with its initiative to grow financial resources, the University of Guam is looking to develop its campus facilities, infrastructure, and connectivity with a focus on environmental sustainability and accessibility.

 

Current plans include a new Student Success Center, the School of Engineering building, and an international dormitory.

Improve and sustain operational efficiency so that there is a high return on organizational investments.

OBJECTIVES

UPDATE as of Jan. 2022
  • Procured the new FMX software which will improve workflows at the Facilities Management and Services unit. The FMX database is being populated. There have been some delays due to the pandemic, but training for FMS, SBPA, and SOE are being targeted in 2022.

Meet the utility needs of all University assets and be in compliance with environmental policies and best practices.

OBJECTIVES

  • Contracted the survey of all actual utilities lines on campus to ensure we know the locations of the lines on campus. This includes identifying major shut off valves and other major shut-off terminals.  Work in progress.

  • Completed and passed the GEPA inspection of the Underground Injection Control (UIC) system. This is a routine, ongoing inspection.     

 

Utilize preventive maintenance best practices to maintain a clean, safe, functional, and attractive campus, bringing buildings, grounds, equipment, and facilities to industry standards.

OBJECTIVES

  • Completed water blasting for facilities in preparation for painting. Buildings Completed so far include: SBPA/ SOE/ Business Office/ ELI and CNAS & SBPA Genset buildings.  Work in progress for the remaining campus.

  • Fixing lights around campus for safety measures. Work in progress.

  • Painting of curbs around campus for safety measures. Work in progress.

  • Repaired Business Office doors. Next project - Margaret Perez Hattori-Uchima School of Health 40 doors.

  • Trimming trees on campus for safety and typhoon mitigation measures. Work in progress.

  • Purchased 2 riding mowers and 2 bushcutters

UPDATE as of Jan. 2022
  • Cataloged all data on all HVACs, split aircons, generators, pumps, elevators, ADA doors, water filling stations, and rooms. Much of this data is in the new FMX software system.  Work in progress.

  • Assessing repairs/replacements of ACs for OIT, CLASS, SOE, CNAS, Calvo FH. Preparing RFP for generator to support OIT, RFK, MARC, and GLE.  Work in progress.  Bid is out for generator.  Bids due end of Sept 17.

  • Removed old vehicles and major equipment from FMS yard. Work in progress.

 

Keep up with demands for student learning, research, service to the community, and internal systems and renovate or replace existing facilities and/or construct new facilities in accordance with the current Physical Master Plan.

OBJECTIVES

  • Science building labs on the second floor completed.

  • Dean Circle Houses 9 and 12 conveted to engineering labs. 

UPDATE as of Jan. 2022
  • Awarded $8.5M from US EDA for new WERI and Nursing buildings.

  • CIS G3 makerspace located at Chamorro Village. Opening scheduled for Jan. 2022.
