Placement Tests

Degrees & Programs

Advisement and Registration

All entering freshmen and transfer applicants who have not completed at least three (3) semester hours of  college-level mathematics course with a grade of “C” or better at an accredited U.S. College or University must take placement examinations in Mathematics.

Transfer applicants who have completed at least three (3) semester hours of transferable college-level Composition will need to have transcripts sent from their institution to Admissions and Records to determine credit and course equivalencies.  They may be exempt from taking the EPT.

New students will receive a personal invitation through email to meet with their assigned academic advisor prior to advisement & registration based on placement, major, and advisor availability.

Admission under this status is limited to one semester.  Students may send unofficial transcript(s) to admitme@triton.uog.edu for a preliminary evaluation.

Placement Test Fees

All students who need to take the placement test are required to pay testing fees in advance before registering online. There is a $10.00 fee for the English Preparedness Test and a $25.00 fee for the Math Placement Test*.

Payments can be made at the UOG Bursar's Office at the Administration and Finance Building from Monday - Friday, 8 am - 5 pm. Please note that the cashier closes at 4 pm.

*Note: Due to the cancellation Math Placement Test for Tinalo' 2020/Fañomnåkan 2021 Semesters, Math Placement Fee's have been suspended until further notice. For further information or refund request please contact uog.accuplacer.mpt@gmail.com.

English Preparedness Test

Because all new freshmen place into English 110 (Freshman Composition), you are now required* to take the English Preparedness Test (EPT).

What should you do to access this test?
First of all, at some point further on in your application process,

  1. You will be directed to pay test fees through the university’s Bursar’s office or online (click this link for more information about paying placement test fees). Please ensure that the EPT payment is made before you take the test.
  2. You will be given access to your personal Triton email and Moodle account,
  3. AND you may have already registered for an EN 110 class.

When the first two conditions are met, you will be sent a letter with instructions on how to enroll to take the EPT on Moodle. The EPT Moodle page will be available from December 1, 2020 to 11:59 pm, Tuesday, January 26, 2021.

You have up to one week to work on the test once you start it, but keep in mind that this test must be completed by Tuesday, January 26, 2021.

What do you need once you start this test?

When you take this test, you will need:

  • An environment (at home or in other places you work) that is free from distraction;
  • A stable internet connection;
  • A device on which to compose (phone, computer, laptop, etc.); and
  • Your UOG Moodle account log-in credentials (username and password). If you do not know your access information, please contact admitme@triton.uog.edu

What happens after you take the test?

Your results will NOT be posted on the Moodle course site. Instead, a diagnostic report will be prepared by the EPT assessment team and made available to you and your EN 110 instructor around the fourth week of the semester in which you take Freshmen Composition.

For more information, please contact the English Dept. (671) 735-2725 or Teresita Perez tperez@triton.uog.edu

*Students who have official AP scores OR an equivalent EN 110 transfer credit which places them into EN 111 directly do not need to take the EPT and do not need to pay for an EPT test fee. Please check with Admissions and Records if either of these conditions apply to you.
